STATEMENT REGARDING PROPOSED GAS IMPORTS

Ref: The Australian, 6/1 – “LNG import developer AP&G proposes import fix to initially head off gas shortfall”

Attributable to Senator McDonald:

“The Albanese Federal Government must explain why preparations are being made to import gas – potentially from the Middle East or USA – instead of allowing companies to access our own vast reserves.

“Despite repeated warnings by industry, energy experts and the Coalition, Labor continues to show it has the wrong priorities, putting Greens preferences above the energy security and economic benefits of everyday Australians.

“Labor has created one of the most hostile resources investment environments in the world at a time when Australians – particularly manufacturers – need access to more gas.

“It is the definition of insanity for Australia to import material that is plentiful and accessible here.

“A Dutton Coalition Government will be the best friend our resources industry has ever had. We will slash approval times for new projects, we will unravel Labor’s regulatory mess holding back investment and jobs, and we will defund the Environmental Defenders Office.

“Bringing more gas online will give Australians energy security and will increase the taxes and royalties that provide our services and infrastructure.”
