QUEENSLAND OPEN FOR BUSINESS WITH NEW OIL AND GAS

The Crisafulli Queensland Government’s announcement to unlock new oil and gas tenure in the Taroom trough is a win for Queensland businesses and households who want affordable, reliable, secure energy.

Queensland LNP Senator Susan McDonald has heralded the decision by Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, Dale Last to award exploration rights in the Taroom Trough, opening up 750 square kilometres for oil and gas exploration.

Senator McDonald said: “This decision is a clear sign that the Queensland Government means business on delivering affordable and reliable energy for Queenslanders, and Australians.

“The Queensland LNP have seen the failures of southern states – particularly the Victorian Labor Government – and have made a clear decision to support Queensland businesses and households over ideological blanket bans, and to utilise the abundant resources of the State.

“Gas is essential for energy production, manufacturing, agriculture and millions of households, and the Queensland Government knows that.

“Despite the Federal Labor Government’s continued crusade against gas and the thousands of jobs that rely on gas, we desperately need to unlock more sources of supply to drive down prices and avert shortfalls, as well as earn tax revenue.

“My call to industry and manufacturing struggling with high energy and gas costs: Queensland is open for business.”
